In 2021, Amazon Design, in collaboration with Diversify by Design (D×D), sponsored the launch of Design=, an experiential learning initiative focused on introducing the world of design and connecting youth with real-life designers. This was the result of an ongoing collaborative effort between Amazon and D×D, and a part of Amazon Design’s continued commitment to making design education more accessible and the design profession more diverse and inclusive.
In scaling this program, 2023 saw the launch of a Design= Curriculum Kit that was developed for educators, professionals, and mentors to ignite creativity and fully immerse students in design. Students work together on a design challenge from ideation and conception to a finished prototype. As students take on their design challenge, they learn and develop skills around brainstorming, creative problem-solving, researching, prototyping, and design thinking. To-date the program has engaged over 1,500 youth in 19 locations across the US and delivered over 4,000 hours of curriculum.
Innovating on behalf of all customers demands a design profession that reflects the rich diversity of our society, and Amazon Design is proud to continue to support efforts like D×D, with a the ultimate goals of expanding awareness of design careers, supporting youth in navigating their design journeys and preparing the next generation of designers in tech.
